βœ‹ Hold up! Before you'd get started it's important to double check and confirm that you are an admin level user in both Timely and your Atlassian workspace before moving forward.

Once this integration is connected it will become available for all workspace users, as long as their email address matches between the two platforms. If for any reason an individual user would like to opt out, they can disconnect the integration in this same are under the Personal Connections toggle.

1. First, log into Timely and head over to the Settings < Ecosystem tab.

2. Under the "Next Generation Integrations" header you'll see Jira listed - go ahead and click the "Connect" button to proceed. During the initial set up make sure that you are connecting under the Workspace Connections toggle along the top:

3. Next you'll see an overview of the integration along with the specific data that will be accessed and permissions needed. Give that a good look over and then click the "Authenticate with Jira" button to move forward.

4. A new prompt will open and you'll be asked to sign into your Atlassian account, if you aren't already. From there you'll be asked to review the permissions necessary to enable this integration - scroll down and click the "Accept" button to confirm

⬆️ If down the road some time you'd need to adjust those projects or add a new one, simply click the "Configure" button to the right of the Jira integration and make those updates as needed.

πŸ“ˆ Your Jira timeline experience

Now that you have Jira connected you can expect to see various updates from Jira right alongside your other memories in Timely. Memories will be created on the timeline of the user who interacts with with a Jira issue - including creating, updating, commenting on and logging time to an issue using Jira's work log feature.

As you select your Jira memories you'll also see that you can choose to associate that work with a specific issue ID imported from Jira. Timely will provide helpful suggestions, you'll just want to make sure you select the appropriate task before finalizing your entry.

➑️ It's an important step to associate your time entry with a specific Jira task, as this is required to report on the time you spend on Jira issues from Timely, including the export options mentioned in detail below.

⌚️ Staying on top of the time spent working on Jira issues

Timely will arrange your work from Jira on your timeline based on when it's logged, making it really convenient to see how you've spent your day!

By adding time tracking information in Jira you'll see a corresponding memory on your timeline in Timely with that duration.

It's important to note that hours logged in Timely do not currently sync back to Jira issues. If there isn't any time tracking information for a particular issue you'll see the Jira memory display in Timely with a less than < 1 minute duration:

πŸ“Š Exporting and reporting on Jira time entries

You've logged your hours and now you'd like to deep dive into your data - great! ⁉️ Frequently Asked Questions

I’m not an Admin so how can I connect my Jira account?

Once your Admin connects Jira and Timely, it’s all done for you! All users on your Timely workspace will start seeing their individual Jira activity appear on their private timelines.

Those users would need to have an email address associated with Timely that matches their Jira/Atlassian account for this to work properly, that email can be either their primary or secondary email address as listed in their Timely profile.

What if a user doesn't want to use the Jira integration after I've already configured it?

Those users who wish to opt out of using Jira may do so my disabling the integration in the Settings < Ecosystem area, under the "Personal Connections" toggle.

Will I see everything my team does in Jira on my timeline?

Once you've selected the specific projects you'd like to sync, those users on your workspace will be able to see those issues associated with them. But only your specific Jira activity will show up on your private timeline, keeping it clean and specific to you.

I have multiple Jira workspaces and sometimes use the same identifiers, will this be a problem?

Duplicating your naming convention / Jira IDs will cause duplication within Timely and should be avoided. For best results please ensure that each issue has a unique Jira ID.

What happens if I remove the Jira integration?

If you're having issues with the Jira integration, please reach out to our team at [email protected].

What happens if I move to a subscription that doesn't include the Jira integration?

The duration of all logged time entries you've created with Jira memories will not be affected but if you move to a plan that doesn't support workspace integrations like Jira, be aware that the integration along with all memories will be removed.
